The History and Relevance of the Lisbon Recognition
Published:
Abstract
Crossing Bridges between Education Systems. The History and Relevance of the Lisbon Recognition Convention offers a historical and critical analysis of the evolution of academic qualification recognition since the adoption of the 1997 Lisbon Convention. The volume retraces the steps leading to its approval, highlighting the role of European institutions and international networks, and examines its impact on higher education systems and processes of internationalization. Edited by international experts, the book provides a multidimensional approach that combines legal, political, and institutional analysis with a reflection on implementation practices and future perspectives. Special attention is given to new digital tools, academic mobility, and the emerging challenges of transparency, quality, and inclusion.
The volume is intended as a reference for scholars, policy makers, and professionals in the field, offering conceptual and practical tools to understand the implications of the Lisbon Convention not only for the European Higher Education Area but also within the broader framework of global qualification recognition.
