Abstract

This contribution analyses Transnational Education (TNE) as a structural dimension of the internationalisation of higher education (HE), with particular attention to governance and quality assurance profiles. After a conceptual and comparative framing of the phenomenon and of the main international and European instruments, the analysis focuses on the Italian case, highlighting its regulatory specificities, systemic critical issues, and recent developments. The comparison with selected national models, including Italy–United Kingdom cooperation, makes it possible to identify the limits and opportunities of TNE in the European context. The contribution concludes with some reflections on the future scenarios of TNE and on Italy’s strategic positioning.
